Adriana Tatum Snaps State Record In 100m - New Mexico State Meet Recap 2019

Adriana Tatum Runs 11.69 Record In The 100; Jonah Vigil Wins Four More 4A Titles

Sophomore Adriana Tatum of Sandia won the 100 meters in 11.69 to break an all-time state record. She also won the 200 meters in 24.56 and anchored her team to victories in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays at the New Mexico state championships.

The Cleveland boys won the 4x100 and 4x400 titles, and placed second in the 4x200 and Sprint Medley, on the way to capturing the Class 5A team title.

Relay strength is a key at New Mexico’s state meet. Relay wins are worth 10 points; individual wins score seven points.

Anthony Bisetti and Nasir Hunter-Muhammad went 1-2 for Cleveland in the 400 meters final. Teammate Tommy Lewis won the 110-meter hurdles.

Austin Atencio of Carlsbad won the long jump with 23-1.75 and also placed second in the triple jump.

Montez Wright of Clovis may have been overshadowed a bit by Jonah Vigil in Class 4A, but he won the 100 meters in 10.69 seconds and the 200 in 21.60w. He also finished second to Atencio in the long jump and was fourth in the triple jump.

Jalyn Mitchell and Aryanna Gomez went 1-2 in the girls 400 meters final for Volcano Vista.

Israel Swanson of La Cueva won the 100 hurdles in 14.59w and ran on the winning 4x400 relay.

Judith Allison from Santa Fe ran 44.06 to win the 300 hurdles. 

Vigil, of Taos, one of the top sprinters in New Mexico history, was the dominant athlete of the Class 4A meet, winning the 100 (10.51), 200 (21.30), 400 (47.75) and long jump (22-10.25). Vigil concluded his state meet ledger with 12 state titles. He also was part of the winning 4x400 relay, which ran 3:19.44.

Kashon Harrison of Kirtland Central left his final mark on New Mexico distance running by winning the 1,600 (4:21.32) and the 3,200 (9:26.42).

Kale Mauritsen from Artesia won the hurdles double in 4A, clocking 14.77 (110s) and 38.35 (300s) in his victories. He was also on the winning 4x200 relay. He also pole-vaulted 14 feet for second place.

Albuquerque Academy scored big points in the throws, including wins by Teagun Glenn in the shot put (53-9) and Zack Jaramillo (188-10) in the javelin.

Faith Powell of Taos won the long jump (18-6.25w), triple jump (36-7.50w) and high jump (5-4) and also placed second in the 400 (58.49).

Destiny Lawrence of Goddard swept the 100 (11.97w), 200 (25.23) and 400 (57.08).

Bailey Beene of Goddard threw 142-9 to win the javelin.

Rebecca Green of Los Alamos won the shot put (38-4.75) and discus (134-6) titles.

Jane Archibeck helped Albuquerque Academy win the 4A girls team title with her wins in the 1,600 (5:05.93) and 3,200 (11:16.41). Teammate Grace Alley won the 800 in 2:15.76.

St. Michael’s drove to the 3A boys title through the relays, winning the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and the Sprint Medley for 40 of the team’s 82 points. Hayden Lee won the 400 meters (50.75) and was one two of the winning relays.

Seth Martinez from Tucumcari was a double winner in the hurdles (15.69/40.12).

Junior Sevilla Duran led Sandia Prep’s girls to the 3A title with her win in the 300 hurdles (45.17), second in the 100 hurdles and a victory in the 4x400 relay.

Hayden Colfax of Santa Fe Prep won the 100 (12.76), the 100 hurdles (15.28), the high jump (5-0) and the triple jump (37-10.75).

Ahbedoh White Eagle from ATC School (Santa Fe) won the 2A 100 (11.15) and 200 (22.64) finals. He also powered his team to a victory in the 4x100 relay and second in the 4x200.

Martin Flores of Hagerman won the 2A 800 meters, 1,600 meters and was second in the 3,200 meters.

Sophomore Ajia Hughes from Cloudcroft jumped a state-leading 38-11 to win the triple jump by more than five feet. She also won the high jump and took second in the long jump. She also ran on the winning 4x400 relay team to help Cloudcroft win the team title.

Hailey Whittaker of Escalante won the 100 hurdles in 15.82 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 37.93.

Fort Sumner won the 4x100 and Sprint Medley relays, and dominated the throwing events, on the way to claiming the 1A boys title. Logan won the 4x100 and 4x200 on the way to the girls team title.
