Anna Connors Leads Bangor Girls To Third Straight Team Title With 100-200-400 Sweep

It was a three-peat for the Bangor High girls track and field team on Saturday, June 3 at the Maine Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Much like 2022, Anna Connors was the headline name for the Rams as the senior swept the sprints, winning the 100 (11.95), 200 (25.23), 400 (57.44) and was the anchor in the 4x400 relay (4:09.38) at  Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham. 

Also on the track, Lewiston’s Makenna Drouin claimed the 100 hurdles for the second year in a row (15.41) and won the 300 hurdles (45.86). She also placed second in the 100 and 200. 

In Class A boys action, Brunswick won the team title with 76 points, holding off Falmouth (73 points). 

In the distance events, Hampden Academy senior Charlie Collins broke the meet record in the 3,200 (9:12.99) and was second in the 1,600 (4:14.49). 

Class B - Freeport High School, Freeport, Maine 

The York girls tallied up 98 points to claim the Class B title. The victory marked the third championship for York during the school year, after winning the cross country and indoor track state crowns. 

The Wildcats were paced by junior Cary Drake who won the 800 (2:17.71), 1, 600 (5:05.54) and ran on the winning 4x800 relay (10:00.97). 

Leavitt Area claimed the program’s first boys Class C state title ever, it scored 85 points to edge out York (82 points) for the crown. 

In the field, Matt Charpentier of York set a meet record in the shot put (60-11.25, best the previous record of 59-01.75 all the way from 1979. He also added a victory in the discus (158-8). 

On the track, Freeport’s Henry Horne completed a triple, winning the 800 (2:01.83), 1,600 (4:24.01) and 3,200 (9:52.57). 

Class C- Cony High School, Cony, Maine

In Class C action, the Orono boys and girls swept the Class C titles. Sophomore Will Francis led Orono with a win in the 110 hurdles (15.46), and long jump (20-00.50) while teammate  Owen Conner Self was second and fourth in the 300 hurdles. 

In girls action, standout distance runner Ruth White guided Orono with a victory in the 3,200 (10:44.75) breaking her own meet record. She anchored her team to a victory in the 4x800 and finished second in the 1,600 (5:06.61). 

Team Champions 

Class A: Brunswick boys 76 points; Bangor girls 100 points

Class B: York boys 97 points; York girls 98 points 

Class C: Orono boys 105 points; Orono girls 121 points
