Sean Burrell Showcases Talents In Baton Rouge - Louisiana State Meet Recap 2019Published by
Sean Burrell Puts Down Impressive 200/400/110H Triple By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Zachary junior Sean Burrell, one of the country's elite talents, dominated the Louisiana state meet over the weekend in Baton Rouge. Burrell, already the U.S. leader in the 110-meter high hurdles with the 13.54 seconds he ran earlier this spring, ran 20.79 seconds to win the Class 5A 200 meters and also ran 46.52 in the 400 meters. He finished second in the 110 hurdles, running 14.32. For good measure, he also ran on Zachary's 4x100 relay team, which finished second in 41.63 seconds, behind Captain Shreve's 41.31. Inclement weather forced all of the field events besides the discus and javelin indoors at LSU's Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Kam Jackson of West Feliciana swept Class 3A titles in the 100 (10.43w), 200 (21.25w) and 400 (49.04). Sophomore Maygan Shaw of Pineville won the 5A title int he girls 400 with 55.90. Hunter Appleton from Brother Martin won 5A titles in the 1,600 (4:21.81) and 3,200 (9:31.20). Kennedy London from West Feliciana ran a wind-legal time of 13.88 in the 3A girls 100 hurdles final. She also placed third (100) and sixth (200) in the sprints. Sophomore Orsciana Beard won the 5A triple jump crown with 39-1.75. Catholic of Baton Rouge won the 5A titles in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays on the way to the team championship with 70 points. St. Joseph's Academy claimed the girls 5A title with 71.50 points.
